Dr Teo believes he still has strong support

MIRI: Despite the voices of objection against him seeking re- election in this 14th general election, Miri incumbent Dr Michael Teo believes that he still has strong support from the public for his renomination.

“When I walked about in the city, there were supporters who showed their support for me. It is all enough despite all that has happened recently,” Dr Teo said.

Referring to the rally that was held by a group of senior citizens last Sunday outside his clinic, the incumbent said that it was just a show put up by those who wanted to cut him off.

“Clearly, there is a motive behind it and money is involved. Right after the rally, the participants of the rally were given money. All these have been caught in a video and we have evidence for it.”

But Dr Teo was humble enough to stress he cannot satisfy everyone.

“What they did not know was that the last five years, I had voiced out a lot of medical-related issues in Parliament. I also argued in Parliament on the many policies that don’t benefit the people. However, all these were not in the public view,” he told reporters after a PKR press conference here yesterday.

He further said that he never rejected patients who approached him.

“I am the only MP here with medical background and more importantly, I have my own reputation in the medical field. Whoever is in need of medical help, I would refer them to other doctors that I know so that they could get the right treatment.

“More so, I am the only YB who has given out money, from few hundreds to thousands, when those who are in need sought my assistance. I believe there is almost no opposition YB here who did that,” he said.

Dr Teo stressed that though he shared some of the cases on his Facebook page, he refrained from sharing a lot of cases publicly to protect the confidentiality of the patients.

During the press conference, which was also attended by PKR Kanowit secretary and state committee member George Chen and PKR members, 34-year- old Roselind Bujang came out to defend Dr Teo.

She revealed that Dr Teo had helped her and her family rebuild their home and even financially supported them from time to time.

“I want to say thank you for everything that he ( Dr Teo) had done, and certainly, there is nothing that we can do to repay the help he had given us,” she said.

In 2015, Dr Teo contributed RM40,000 to an elderly couple to rebuild their home.

The husband also came to Dr Teo’s defence after reading in the newspaper of people accusing Dr Teo of not doing his job as an MP.
