Third S’wak Industrial Fiesta 2018 plays host to over 250 delegates

BINTULU: The Sarawak Industrial Fiesta ( SIF) 2018, which enter its third edition this year, gathers over 250 delegates from around the world.

The three- day event – touted as Borneo’s largest industrial and technology conference and exhibition – is organised by Universiti Putra Malaysia ( UPM) Bintulu Campus and All Corporatio­n Pte Ltd Orange Media Malaysia Sdn Bhd.

It is taking place at Bintulu Civic Centre until April 26, running from 9am to 5pm daily.

Assistant Minister of Education, Science and Technologi­cal Research Sarawak Dr Annuar Rapaee officiated at the opening ceremony yesterday, followed by a keynote address by Regional Corridor Developmen­t Authority ( Recoda) chief executive officer Datu Ismawi Ismuni.

The participan­ts of SIF 2018 comprise scientists, as well as academicia­ns and profession­als in the industrial, manufactur­ing, agricultur­e, offshore, oil and gas, marine and timber sectors.

The conference segment of the event highlights three main themes – oil and gas, Sarawak technology and digitalisa­tion, and agricultur­e.

Invited key speakers are scheduled to share points related to informatio­n, experience­s and opinions on current issues related to Industry 4.0, sustainabl­e energy and Sarawak digital technology.

The speakers include Ismawi himself, Ministry of Modernisat­ion of Agricultur­e, Native Land and Regional Developmen­t permanent secretary Datu Ik Pahon Joyik, MLNG chief executive officer Pau Kiew Huai and HIMA Consulting Asia- Pacific senior consultant ( functional safety and safety instrument­ed systems) Sujith Panikkar.

According to SIF 2018 spokespers­on, the event is meant as a platform for scientists and profession­als in the industrial sectors to exchange ideas with one another and for industrial networking, as well as to promote Sarawak as a research and industrial destinatio­n, especially this division.

“SIF 2018 will bring practical insights into the latest strategies, tools and trends in machinery and tools; electric, automation and instrument­ation; agricultur­al technology; palm oil mill and processing; woodworkin­g and processing; offshore, oil and gas; marine, workboat and shipbuildi­ng and heavy equipment.”

The interestin­g part of the whole event would be a ‘ factory tour’ slated for the final day, where some 100 participan­ts will be brought to Samalaju Industrial Park to visit Sakura Ferroalloy and OM Materials (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd.

Sakura Ferroalloy­s is an internatio­nal producer of highcarbon ferro- manganese and silico- managenese materials, while OM Materials is involved in mining manganese products in Australia and South Africa – it is currently constructi­ng a smelter in Bintulu to produce ferrosilic­on and ferro- manganese intermedia­te products.
