Huang Xiaoming recalls recoiling from poor enunciation in English

-

BEIJING: During his latest talk show interview, actor Huang Xiaoming, 40, recoiled as he recalled how he was widely ridiculed for his poor enunciation in English.

For the 2008 Olympics hosted in Beijing, he had sung the theme song and was promptly humiliated for his bad singing and poor enunciation.

Admitted Huang: “It was definitely the lowest point in my career. I felt horrible. I did try to defend myself online, but that didn’t really work. I felt like even the dogs were mocking me with their eyes.”

Since then, he has learned to accept criticisms and not to take it personally.

During the talk show A Day with Luyu, Huang also spoke about how his fame backfired on him.

Huang had debuted in showbiz 2 0 years ago. Fame came when he portrayed the role of the young Han dynasty king Liu Che in the 2001 period drama The Prince of Han Dynasty. His popularity peaked after starring as Yang Guo in the 2006 remake of Return of the Condor Heroes. Then came his role in China’s remake of The Bund. His performance was negatively compared with that of Chow Yun Fatt. It stressed him up. But since becoming a father, Huang has become more laidback. Said Huang: “When I choose a new movie to do, I would always consider my son. I always think about whether or not my son would watch this movie in the future, so I have to be careful with what I make. I want to set a good example for him.”
