Innovations is the key to solving problems or issues facing the community — Fadillah

KUCHING: Innovative approach is the key to solving general problems or issues faced by the community.

Minister of Works Datuk Fadillah Yusof says regardless of where they are living in, the solution to a problem can easily be found if all members of the community put their minds and thoughts into it.

“When a solution is found, that is already an innovation by itself,” said Fadillah in officiating at the launch of ‘ Fostering Innovation Through Community Project’ (Fitcop) programme held in Dewan Tanjung Tupong here yesterday.

He said with the solution in mind, a person could proceed to come up with a product or a service meant to address the problems – all for the betterment of the community.

From there, he added, such products or services could be expanded towards creating a new market for other communities.

“It is also important for a person to be equipped with the right skills and knowledge, and is not afraid of failing,” said Fadillah, who has been renominated by Barisan Nasional ( BN) to contest on Petra Jaya in the May 9 parliamentary election.

According to him, a person can learn a lot from his own mistakes and failures – akin to a baby learning to walk.

On another note, Fadillah said he would continue to serve the Petra Jaya constituency, should he be given the mandate to be elected as MP again.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Innovative Youth Cooperative ( Kobis) chairman Zaiwin Kassim said the programme was held in celebration of the annual World Innovative and Creativity Week, from April 15 to 21.

It was the first time that Tupong – a state constituency under Petra Jaya – hosted the event.

“The programme involved around 50 participants, who have shared their creative and innovative ideas towards problem solving with one another.

Fitcop is supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports.
