Andrew uses trump card ‘RS1’ to win back voters

SIBU: Barisan Nasional ( BN) candidate for Sibu Dato Andrew Wong Kee Yew is tackling the ‘black areas’ in the parliamentary constituency using Rancangan Sibu 1 ( RS1) to win back voters to BN.

He says it is crucial to address the residents’ most pressing problems and do something that would impact their lives directly.

“I am hoping people would see that I keep my promises. Whatever I promise under RS1 would be delivered. So hopefully, the younger people would see that and then, they would return to BN,” Wong told reporters when met after visiting Rejang Park market here yesterday.

He named Rejang Park as one of the ‘black areas’ in Sibu.

“Rejang Park is considered a ‘ black area’ because in the last parliamentary election, BN lost a lot of votes there.

“We have to get them (votes) back – that is why.”

He reckoned that in a ‘black area’, the people might feel dissatisfied with the government – perhaps they felt that they had not been well taken care of.

“So, we defi nitely have to address their most basic problems,” Wong pointed out.

For the record, RS1 is the very fi rst five-year development plan for Sibu, covering a wide range of areas. Its main purpose is to formulate a development masterplan for the town between 2018 and 2022.

On the visit to Rejang Park, Wong likened it to coming home as he had spent lots of time there about two and half years ago.

He was happy to see that the residents still remembered and appreciated him because he upgraded 95 per cent of roads there during his tenure under Sibu Municipal Council (SMC).

“For that, I have to thank the people from the bottom of my heart. The response is better. I think this represents something that is very crucial in this election.

“You have to do something that helps people directly. RS1’s strategy and objectives are correct.

“You have to give the people basic infrastructures such as roads, water and electricity supply, street lighting and telecommunications.”

Sibu is having a four- cornered fi ght in this election, where Wong faces incumbent Oscar Ling of Democratic Action Party ( DAP), Jamie Tiew Yew Huong of Sarawak Peace Party ( PEACE), and Simon Tiong Ing Tung of State Reform Party Sarawak (STAR).

I am hoping people would see that I keep my promises. Whatever I promise under RS1 would be delivered. Dato Andrew Wong Kee Yew, BN candidate for Sibu
