SIBU: Barisan Nasional welcomes the three- cornered fight for the Lanang parliamentary constituency in the GE14 for which polling has been set on May 9.

Chairman of the BN- SUPP election operation centre Chieng Buong Toon said the multicornered fight reflects that Malaysia is a truly democratic country.

Speaking during a press conference at the operation centre yesterday, he said everyone has a right to stand in the election.

“I believe the voters will be mature enough to vote for their candidate wisely.”

“I think this 14th general election (GE 14) is a bit different from the previous one.

“This election is a crucial time for Sarawakians to enable us to reclaim our rights as stipulated in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 ( MA63).”

Chieng who is also SUPP Bukit Assek branch chairman noted a good turn out of supporters to SUPP’s meet- the- people gathering held at a commercial centre on Saturday night, despite the rain.

He also said that the turn out of BN supporters on Nomination day was very good. Around 1,000 supporters from BN component parties including Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu ( PBB) Dudong branch chairman Tan Sri Bustari Yusof and chairman of United People Party ( UPP) Dudong branch Datuk Tiong Thai King showed up at the Nomination centre.

BN- SUPP Kelvin Kong is challenged by DAP incumbent Alice Lau and Sarawak Peace Party (SPP) Priscilla Lau for the Lanang parliamentary seat.
