KUCHING: A policeman was among two people killed in separate road accidents here and in Serian yesterday.

The first accident occurred at KM2 Jalan Gedong, near Kampung Triboh in Serian, claiming the life of a 59-year- old policeman identified as Angat Dusi.

State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said Angat, who was attached with Police Training Centre ( Pulapol) academic branch here, was riding a motorcycle alone when the incident happened at 4.20pm.

“The victim was travelling towards Gedong from Serian when his motorcycle veered into the opposite lane and collided with a car,” he said when contacted. He added that Angat was pronounced dead at the scene, and the body sent to Serian Hospital for a postmortem.

The second incident, Alexson said, had a motorcycle pillion rider killed in a hit- and-run after the machine was rear- ended by a car along Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Yakub. He said the victim was travelling with her husband towards Jalan Matang from Jalan Satok around 5pm when a blue compact car allegedly rear- ended their motorcycle.

“The pillion rider was pronounced dead by medical personnel while her husband suffered injuries to his shoulder, back and leg and was sent to Sarawak General Hospital for treatment,” he said, adding that police are still looking for the car involved in the accident.

“Both case are being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said.
