BN man for Lanang highlights focus on under-privileged groups
SIBU: Kelvin Kong knows the hardship faced by the less-fortunate members of the community here only too well, in that he is the son of a poor farmer in Sungai Durin.
In this respect, the Barisan Nasional ( BN) - Sarawak United People’s Party ( SUPP) candidate for the Lanang parliamentary constituency says his focus – should he win this election – would be on fighting for the welfare and wellbeing of the underprivileged groups.
“If elected, my main focus would be on the low-income groups, poor families, single mothers, people with special needs, orphans and senior citizens,” he spoke at the ‘Sejambak Kasih’ event in Kingwood Hotel here yesterday, where Welfare, Community Well Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah was also present.
Sejambak Kasih is a programme run by the state Welfare Department.
Adding further, Kong said a good people’s representative would be one who could view and feel the problems of the people, making them his own.
“After all, we’re elected by the ‘rakyat’ (people) – this makes it our obligation to help the ‘rakyat’.”
Moreover, Kong pledged that he would work with all members of society, including the community leaders, to ‘make Lanang better’.
“What you and your families will benefit over the next five years depends much on the ballots in your hand,” he said.
