Dr Sim: I do not resort to cheap publicity to get favours, sympathy

-

KUCHING: The Barisan Nasional ( BN) candidate for Stampin Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian says he does not resort to cheap publicity stunts to garner favours or sympathy from the public.

He said the challenge set by his rival Chong Chieng Jen of DAP on Tuesday, calling on him to lodge a police report on money politics by today ( May 3), failing which the latter would lodge one against him was one such example of a publicity stunt from the opposition party.

“In fact, my people have already lodged the police report. We are not like them ( DAP) where every time they lodge a police report, they would call for a press conference. This is what we call ‘cheap publicity stunt,” he told a press conference at SUPP Batu Kawah service centre here yesterday.

He was responding to Chong’s allegation that SUPP had given RM100 to its supporters to be present during the nomination day, to which he (Dr Sim) had on the day itself denied the allegation after the announcement of candidacy at Padawan Municipal Council, and that SUPP was not involved in money politics, and would lodge a police report against it.

Dr Sim, who is also SUPP president, said the opposition’s ‘publicity stunt’ was merely one of their strategies to try and win over the voters.

“Come polling day, they will approach the voters and ask why they didn’t receive any money, and why they are still voting for BN,” he said, adding that he was now happy that DAP has fi nally shown its true colours.

Dr Sim, however, did not reveal when SUPP lodged the police report, “as by doing so it would make Chong’s job easy”.

“DAP never does its homework, and Chong should do his homework. Why should we spoon feed him? Why should I tell him that I’ve lodged a police report?” He said if Chong believed so strongly that he has yet to lodge a police report, then the state DAP chairman should lodge a police report himself.

“I will not stop him because I too want to know the truth and I hope the police will do their work because I didn’t give out any RM100,” he said.
