Fajar offering RM180,000 in scholarshi­ps for Gawai pageants

MIRI: Fajar Internatio­nal College is offering scholarshi­ps worth RM180,000 as prizes for the Miri Division Gawai Dayak Celebratio­n’s Kumang and Keling Gawai.

The scholarshi­ps will go to the top three winners of the Miss Bidayuh ( Dayung), Miss Iban ( Kumang), Miss Orang Ulu ( Keligit), and Keling/ Belawan (male) categories.

The 12 winners can apply for any programme offered by the college or transfer the scholarshi­ps to their siblings.

On Monday, Fajar Internatio­nal College chief executive Dr Peter Tham symbolical­ly handed over the scholarshi­ps to organising chairman Capt Bernard Idit.

Also present were Fajar chief executive Ricky Walter Brooke and senior administra­tor Lah Kebing, as well as organising committee members Loretta Herbert Madang and Venezia Doning.

The grand fi nale of this year’s pageant will be on May 19, with Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan invited as the guest- of-honour.

The host of this year’s Miri Division Gawai Celebratio­n 2018 is the Dayak Bidayuh National Associatio­n Miri.

Meanwhile, Fajar’s new academic session is open for enrolment.

Its capstone programme, the Diploma in Occupation­al Safety and Health, is to date the only college diploma with recognitio­n from the Department of Occupation­al Safety and Heath ( Dosh) Malaysia and the Institutio­n of Occupation­al Safety and Heath ( IOSH-UK), as well as Malaysian Qualificat­ions Agency ( MQA) accreditat­ion in East Malaysia.

The Diploma in Accountanc­y approved by the Ministry of Education is the only college diploma that incorporat­es GST applicatio­n and also computeris­ed accounting, with full accreditat­ion from MQA.

Other programmes are the Diploma in Business Studies and Diploma in Human Resource Management, which are also approved by the Ministry of Education and accredited by MQA.
