Fajar offering RM180,000 in scholarships for Gawai pageants
MIRI: Fajar International College is offering scholarships worth RM180,000 as prizes for the Miri Division Gawai Dayak Celebration’s Kumang and Keling Gawai.
The scholarships will go to the top three winners of the Miss Bidayuh ( Dayung), Miss Iban ( Kumang), Miss Orang Ulu ( Keligit), and Keling/ Belawan (male) categories.
The 12 winners can apply for any programme offered by the college or transfer the scholarships to their siblings.
On Monday, Fajar International College chief executive Dr Peter Tham symbolically handed over the scholarships to organising chairman Capt Bernard Idit.
Also present were Fajar chief executive Ricky Walter Brooke and senior administrator Lah Kebing, as well as organising committee members Loretta Herbert Madang and Venezia Doning.
The grand fi nale of this year’s pageant will be on May 19, with Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan invited as the guest- of-honour.
The host of this year’s Miri Division Gawai Celebration 2018 is the Dayak Bidayuh National Association Miri.
Meanwhile, Fajar’s new academic session is open for enrolment.
Its capstone programme, the Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health, is to date the only college diploma with recognition from the Department of Occupational Safety and Heath ( Dosh) Malaysia and the Institution of Occupational Safety and Heath ( IOSH-UK), as well as Malaysian Qualifications Agency ( MQA) accreditation in East Malaysia.
The Diploma in Accountancy approved by the Ministry of Education is the only college diploma that incorporates GST application and also computerised accounting, with full accreditation from MQA.
Other programmes are the Diploma in Business Studies and Diploma in Human Resource Management, which are also approved by the Ministry of Education and accredited by MQA.
