Harith, Lee Hong lift U13, U11 CIMB squash titles
KUCHING: Sarawak players per formed wel l at the just concluded 1st Leg of the 13th CIMB Foundation Rising Star National Junior Circuit in Malacca.
They bagged two titles and four top six finishes in the five- day tournament which is part of the CIMB Junior Squash Development Programme.
Harith Danial Jefri of Miri collected his fourth title of the year when he beat second seed Tay Jun Qian of Selangor 3-2 in the Boys U13 final.
But the tournament top seed was given a scare when he lost the first two sets 10-12, 8-11 only to make a superb comeback by winning the next three sets 11- 3, 11- 8, 11-7.
In third place was Malacca’s Veroon Heng who defeated Tho Wei Yan of Penang 3- 0 (11- 9, 12-10, 11-7) in the placings play- off.
Miri’s Wong Lee Hong was also impressive as the top seed won the Boys U11 title after blanking the second seed from Kedah, Abdul Fahmi Abdul Basir 3- 0 (11- 6, 11-2, 11-2) in the final.
Meanwhile, Agatha Cheng Si Cheng from Sibu finished second in the Girls U9 after she lost 5-11, 8-11, 5-11 to the top seed Harleein Tan of Negeri Sembi lan and Agatha’s teammates Iris Chieng and Lee Xin Yee were fifth and sixth respectively.
Altamis Aqhar Sallam finished in fourth place in the Boys U11.
The 30-member Sarawak team was managed by Yeoh Ai Nah and coached by Jewan Singh Chal, Athar Ali and Liong Bi Ling.
