Claims of termination of service not true — Uggah
SIBU: The community leaders in Pakan should ignore claims about them being dismissed or facing non-renewal of service contracts if they were to be found supporting the Barisan Nasional ( BN) candidate for Julau parliamentary constituency.
In pointing this out, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah believes that such allegation is the work of certain quarters who have some hidden agenda.
“How can you be penalised for supporting the BN candidate?” he said during a ‘ meet- and- greet’ at Rumah George Chungut in Nanga Nansang, Pakan yesterday, where he supported the BN-Parti Rakyat Sarawak ( PRS) candidate Datuk Joseph Salang, who is eyeing his fi fth term as Julau MP.
Pakan assemblyman Tan Sri William Mawan, former Hulu Rejang MP Datuk Justine Jinggut and former Belaga assemblyman Stanley Ajang were among those present.
Uggah also called upon all Dayaks to stay united so that they could shape a better future for themselves.
“We must move in unison as we ‘ paddle our boat’ so that we would reach our destination successfully.
“There is no point to bash or whack each other with our oars,” he quipped.
On Julau constituency, Uggah viewed Salang – the PRS secretary- general – as ‘ the one and only BN candidate for it’.
On the opposition’s claim of Salang’s age and him ‘overstaying his welcome’, Uggah regarded this as another attempt to sabotage the people’s support for Salang.
“I had been a parliamentarian for seven terms and now, I’m an assemblyman – I can still serve (the people) very well.
“Salang is going for his fifth term – so far, he has performed excellently. We need leaders with the knowledge and the experience, instead of new leaders who tend to fumble and get jittery along the way. It will be the people’s absolute loss should they elect someone who is outside the BN,” said Uggah.
Meanwhile in his remarks earlier, Mawan called upon the people to not to allow personal agenda to cloud their important decision.
Later, a ceremony was held where Rumah George received government grants totalling RM75,000.
