Committee extends closing date for Gawai beauty contest

MIRI: The Miri Divisional Gawai Dayak 2018 celebration committee is extending the closing date for Miri Division Dayung Sangon, Kumang Iban, Keligit Orang Ulu and Keling/Belawan Gawai 2018 contest to May 8.

“The committee has decided to extend the closing date from May 4 to May 8 to enable eligible ladies and men to take part and win lucrative prizes. Criteria and schedule of competition remains the same,” said a spokesperson for the organiser Caroline Siburat yesterday.

For the Dayung Sangon, Kumang Iban and Keligit Orang Ulu categories, participants must be single ladies aged between 18 to 25 years old, while the Keling/Belawan category is open to single men aged between 18 to 30 years old. Participants must be fluent in the dialect of the ethnic they are representing and must be at least 150cm or 5 feet tall.

Completed entry forms with RM30 registration fee, a copy of the participant’s MyKad and birth certificate (for mixed race) as well as two passport size photos must reach the organiser at the office of Dayak Association Miri ( DAM) at Lot 1088-1089, 3rd Floor, Rumah Persatuan Dayak Miri, Jalan Merpati before or by 4.30pm on May 8.

Besides cash prizes, trophies, and certificates, Fajar International College is offering scholarships worth RM180,000 as prizes.

The top three winners will get scholarships worth RM20,000, RM15,000 and RM10,000 respectively.

The 12 winners can apply for any programme offered by the college or transfer the scholarships to their siblings.
