New law on strata titles homes in the pipeline — Dr Sim
KUCHING: A new legislation to manage strata titles properties is being drafted, reveals Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian.
According to him, the state currently has the Strata Titles Ordinance which regulates all matters regarding strata titles for homes.
He said the state government intends to split the ordinance into two; one is to regulate the issuing of strata titles and the other managing the strata titles.
“We are going to have two ordinances in the state soon. One is the Strata Title Ordinance and the other one proposed will be the Strata Title Management Ordinance,” he disclosed yesterday.
The proposed Strata Title Management Ordinance will handle matters related to maintenance of houses, f lats or condominiums and other facilities related to the housing areas.
Dr Sim said the new ordinance will be specific in giving home owners guidelines after they received their strata titles to their homes.
“We want things to be the same for all homes and home owners across the state. This is why we have drafted this ordinance,” he said.
Dr Sim was at Taman Flora Indah at Jalan Arang here to meet residents there and listen to their complaints.
Also present during his visit were officials from the Housing Development Corporation.
