Exercise your rights wisely, Baram folk advised

TINJAR, Baram: The people of Baram are reminded to think wisely before casting their votes this May 9.

Assistant Minister of Local Government Datu Dr Penguang Manggil said it is vital for them to vote for the right candidate to enjoy continuous growth and developmen­t in the constituen­cy.

“Choose a candidate who is able to bring in developmen­t to the people in Baram.

“Think very carefully so as not to spoil the future of our younger generation, who will become victims of our bad decision,” the Marudi assemblyma­n said in addressing over100con­stituents at the ‘Program Jelajah Pendidikan Guru Pembina Negara Bangsa’ in SMK Tinjar yesterday.

Penguang also advised the people here to filter remarks made by representa­tives from the opposition, so as to avoid from being easily influenced by their ‘empty promises’.

Penguang said the state government is committed to uplifting the education level in Sarawak as well as in enhancing existing facilities at schools across the state.

Apart from reminding the students on the importance of mastering the English language, Penguang also stressed that they ought to choose the right course when entering institutio­ns of higher learning to have better chances in securing the right job.

“Choose courses with high marketabil­ity potential, or those that can meet today’s market demand.

“Students can opt to further their studies in technical and vocational institutio­ns, which can also help them to become highly skilled individual­s who can meet the needs of today’s digital economy,” he added.

At the event, Penguang encouraged the students to further their knowledge in science, technology, engineerin­g and mathematic­s.

He pledged to give some funding for the school’s treated water supply system.

Earlier, Penguang handed out uniforms to several representa­tives of various uniformed bodies at the school.

Marudi District Council chairman Edward Mendai, Baram Education deputy officer Jalong Wan, Baram Headmaster­s Council chairman Samuel Iwat and SMK Tinjar headmaster Samri Suhaili were among those present.
