State Barisan Nasional to propose Nanta as full minister — Dr Rundi
KAPIT: The state Barisan Nasional ( BN) will propose Kapit candidate and incumbent Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi be promoted to a full minister should he succeed in defending the seat.
Minister of Public Utilities Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom said Nanta would be the state’s choice to represent the Dayak community from Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu ( PBB) in the federal cabinet.
“Previously, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas was the minister. Now, he is Deputy Chief Minister of Sarawak. I am coming today to campaign for Nanta. We’ll support him as our candidate to be a full minister after the election. We have to make sure Nanta wins the election with an overwhelming majority,” he said during an event at Rumah Mathew Bena Abun, Sungai Yong yesterday.
Nanta was previously Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development.
Dr Rundi pointed out that during each election the opposition would harp on road issues.
“Last time people said Kapit was a ‘ lost world’. Now Kapit is expanding. Datuk Nanta has planned for roads, electricity, clean water, etc. Dayaks in rural areas must move forward with a positive attitude to work hard, modernise agriculture techniques, and venture into business,” he said.
Dr Rundi also announced an RM10,000 grant for the longhouse’s village security and development committee, as well as RM10,000 for its women’s bureau.
Among those present were the science advisor to the state government Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu Numpang, Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat, and PBB Bukit Goram women’s chief Datin Angelina Celestine Ujang.
