BN campaign in Langkawi heats up with Najib’s arrival
LANGKAWI: Barisan Nasional’s (BN) campaign for the 14th General Election in Langkawi moved up a notch when Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak joined in yesterday for a one- day visit.
His first stop upon arrival at the airport here was at the Telaga Walk along Jalan Chenang where an entreprenurial clinic jointly organised by the Malaysian Malay Chamber of Commerce and SME Corp was held.
He was accompanied by Kedah Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah, BN candidates for Langkawi parliament, Datuk Ir Nawawi Ahmad and Kuah State Legislative Assembly seat, Nor Saidi Nanyan.
He spent about 30 minutes visiting the exhibition kiosks at the location where scores of activities including entreprenurial and youth courses, trade bazaar, cat show, lucky draws and stage entertainments were featured.
Last night he would be attending a gathering held by the tourism industry players in Langkawi at the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre.
BN is facing a three-cornered fight for the Langkawi parliamentary seat where Nawawi, who is also the incumbent is facing former Prime Minister and PPBM chairman, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed who is standing as a PKR-PPBM candidate and PAS’ Zubir Ahmad.
In the 13th General Election, Nawawi won the seat with a huge majority of 11,861 votes by polling 21,407 votes to defeat PKR’s Ahmad Abdullah who obtained 9,546 votes and independent candidate Marina Hussein who managed only 180 votes. — Bernama
