DPM certain opposition will launch eleventh hour attacks

BALING: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said day that he his certain that the opposition is lining up surprise last minute attacks in trying to garner support ahead of the 14th General Election on May 9.

Citing the last two general elections, Ahmad Zahid said they would resort to last minute lies in the hope that the Barisan Nasional would not be able to counter them in time.

“This time I am sure they will step up such attacks because they are very desperate. We can expect them to cross the line by coming with so called dirt and targeted character assassination,” he told the media here.

Earlier, Ahmad Zahid had performed the ground-breaking for Universiti Teknologi Mara’s ( UiTM) Baling campus in Kampung Bandar, Mukim Siong here .

Also present were Education Minister and Kedah Umno deputy chief Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid, the BN’s incumbent for the Baling parliamentary seat Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim and the coalition’s candidates for state seats under it namely Mohamed Noor Mohamed Amin ( Bayu), Datuk Harun Abdul Aziz (Kupang) and Datuk Mohd Khairul Azhar Abdullah ( Kuala Ketil).

Ahmad Zahid said BN leaders at the national level were accustomed to attacks of such nature and that he hoped loyal BN supporters and fence sitters would not fall for them.

He said this tactic would be used by the opposition to deny all the contributions and transformation efforts made by the BN government under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

“Because they have a poor track record in the states they are governing and a lack of credible leaders, they will resort to negative means and the reverse psychology approach. We deem these as political issues which must be tackled politically or legal means (if laws are broken),” he said.

Earlier, in his speech at the event, Ahmad Zahid, who is also Home Minister and BN deputy chairman, reminded the BN machinery to stay strong in the face of the opposition’s attacks.

“Campaigning should be clean in a democratic country. We should not resort to the Nazi doctrine that if a lie is repeated often enough it becomes the truth. Learn from it, I urge all to be grounded in reality.

“In this modern age, we want all political parties to show better maturity, we must embrace the meaning of democracy well,” he said. — Bernama
