37 areas involving 91,335 hectares of NCR land in Kapit surveyed

KAPIT: The Land and Survey Department has carried out perimeter survey on 37 areas/ localities of NCR land in Kapit division under the New Initiative­s for Perimeter Survey of Native Customary Right ( NCR) land involving a total of 91,335 hectares.

Superinten­dent of Land and Survey Kapit Jawan Tumba said 25 of these localities involving a total area of 59,496 hectares have been gazetted.

Jawan disclosed that these localities were among 67 areas or localities in the division covering a total of 268, 219 hectares ( 662,769 acres) which have been approved for perimeter survey since 2010.

He said this in his opening remark at the presentati­on of the NCR Gazette Land ( Communal Bumiputera Reserve) under Section 6 of Sarawak Land Code for 2 localities in Song district namely Sipan/Seawa, Song and Lijau/ Manap/ Melipis, Song held at Song Community Hall recently.

The event was officiated by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan who is also the Minister of Urban Developmen­t and Natural Resources II cum Minister of Industrial and Entreprene­urs Developmen­t Sarawak.

Jawan said the Sipan/Sesawa, Song area covers an area of 2,281 hectares ( 5,636 acres) and Lijau/ Manap/ Melipis, Song covers an area of 4,585.5 hectares (11,338 acres) where the majority of the community in those areas are Iban from 26 longhouses.

He thanked the longhouse community for giving their full support during the perimeter survey work adding that the survey work was never easy as the staffs were faced with many challenges including staying in the jungle for weeks and far away from their families.

Also present at the function were Deputy Minister for Rural and Regional Developmen­t Malaysia Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi who is also the BN- PBB candidate for Kapit parliament­ary constituen­cy, permanent secretary to the Ministry of Industrial and Entreprene­urs Developmen­t Sarawak Datu Liaw Soon Eng, Kapit Resident Joseph Belayong Punan, the assistant director of Planning, Land and Survey Department Peggy Runin, Song District officer Jackline August, head of the various government department­s and community leaders.
