Nanta irked by opponent’s remark on recent 24-hour blackout in Kapit

-

KAPIT: Incumbent BN candidate for Kapit parliamentary seat Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi has advised his opponent from DAP, Paren Nyawi, not to resort to lies in his campaign.

Nanta was commenting on the remarks by Paren on the blackout in Kapit on May 1, which lasted from 2.30pm to 11.30am the next day.

“I am very disappointed by the baseless allegation made by Paren Nyawi, the candidate from DAP in Kapit over the power blackout on May 1. It was purely because of an unintentional incident caused by a contractor who was doing some work on the road. He did not follow the proper procedure, meaning he did not comply with the standard operating procedure by Sesco on working in a site where there are underground cables.

“He just cut through the road and cut the main cable that caused more than 24hour blackout in Kapit. A lot of people were unhappy including myself,” he said after officiating at the Karnival Usahawan Desa 2018 at Kapit ( KUD Kapit 2018) at the compound of Fort Sylvia and Jalan Kubu Lama here.

“But why should DAP just bluff and throw the allegation against me?” he asked.

He said immediately after the blackout started he contacted the relevant authority.

“I asked how soon they could remedy the situation, how soon they could repair it. I also informed the Minister of Utilities Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom about it,” he said.

“What is bad, he ( Paren) did not know what I am doing. He just put the billboard to say where I was when the incident happened. Well, I can ask him, what did he do when the incident happened? He did nothing and yet I am gentleman enough not to blame him,” he added.
