Organiser calls for more participat­ion from young and single Dayaks

MIRI: Single ladies and men of Dayak descent have until May 8 to send in their applicatio­ns for this year’s Miri Division Dayung Sangon, Kumang Iban, Keligit Orang Ulu and Keling/ Belawan Gawai 2018 contest.

A spokespers­on for the Miri Divisional Gawai Dayak 2018 celebratio­n committee, Caroline Siburat said the response for Dayung Sangon and Kumang Iban was lukewarm.

“We need more participan­ts especially in these two categories before the closing date. The criteria and schedule of competitio­n remains the same,” said Caroline yesterday.

For the Dayung Sangon, Kumang Iban and Keligit Orang Ulu categories, participan­ts must be single ladies aged between 18 to 25 years old, while the Keling/ Belawan category is open to single men aged between 18 to 30 years old, at least 150cm or 5 feet tall and fluent in the dialect of the ethnicity they are representi­ng.

Completed entry forms with RM30 registrati­on fee, a copy of the participan­t’s MyKad and birth certificat­e (for mixed race) as well as two passport size photos must reach the organiser at the office of Dayak Associatio­n Miri ( DAM) at Lot 1088-1089, 3rd Floor, Rumah Persatuan Dayak Miri, Jalan Merpati before or by 4.30pm on May 8,

Winners will win cash prizes, trophies, certificat­es and scholarshi­ps to pursue higher education at Fajar Internatio­nal College. Dinner tickets priced at RM600 and RM800 per table are still available.
