KUCHING: The government is determined to find ways and means to resolve the issue of native customary rights ( NCR) land, which would be settled soon and the land issued with titles.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah, in saying this, said an example of this is the surveying of NCR land in Singai.

“The land will be surveyed and titles will be issued. Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has asked me to chair a committee meeting to ensure that all NCR land surveyed by Dayak Bidayuh National Association ( DBNA), led by Datu Ik Pahon, to be given titles,” he said at the closing of Bau Gawai Sales ( BGS) at Dataran Bau last Saturday night.

He added that the land (in Singai) are now in the process of being issued titles. Abang Johari had directed that the process be hastened.

Uggah said it is important to continue to do the NCR Land Perimeter Survey, first under Section 6, then Section 18 of the Land Code so that the land are issued with appropriate titles.

He said the Land and Survey Department had identified 1.2 million hectares of NCR land throughout Sarawak, of which 855,000ha have been surveyed. From the figure, 650,000ha have been gazetted. About 6,000 areas were surveyed under Section 18.

This NCR land issue has to be resolved because for the Bumiputeras, land is a very important asset and it is their livelihood.

On the issue of Pemakai Menoa and Pulau Galau, Uggah said the state government would table the issue during the July sitting of the State Legislative Assembly.

“As chairman of the ( Pemakai Menoa and Pulau Galau) committee, I say the process is already in the final stage.”

At the function, Uggah also presented cheques totalling RM1million under Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) for churches in Bau this year.

The BGS, held since April 28, was meant to give the people, especially the youths, an opportunity to try their hands on entrepreneurship, and among items sold were handicraft, local food and agriculture products in the hope to attract tourists to the area.

The highlight of the event was the final of Miss Borneo Bau, with 16 finalists.

Mas Gading incumbent Datuk Anthony Nogeh and Tasik Biru assemblyman Dato Henry Harry Jinep were among those present at the event.

At the event, Uggah also announced minor rural project grant of RM30,000 to the BGS

He also urged the local community to show their support for Nogeh in the upcoming polls.

He said the support means supporting the chief minister, who would help to regain the lost rights under MA63, and for more development in Bau, with Nogeh as the bridge between them and Putrajaya. The closing ceremony was attended by the local community who braved the rain to attend the event and watch the finale of the beauty pageant.
