Facilities at Kapit Waterfront need to be upgraded — Masing
KAPIT: Facilities at the Kapit Waterfront need to be upgraded to complement popular water sports such as regatta, powerboat races and raft safari that are held there annually.
Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Masing said this is so that these water sports become iconic events at the waterfront to attract local and outside enthusiasts.
“We need to provide proper facilities for the crowd so that they enjoy watching the sports,” he said when witnessing the handing- over of the site of the Proposed Riverbank and Slope Protection Works to the Kapit Waterfront to the contractor at the Sarawak Rivers Board office here on Sunday.
“When it is completed within 15 months, we have a new facelift to the Kapit Waterfront from the Kapit Terminal to the RC Range in front of Fort Sylvia.
“It is not just to beautify the landscape but also to protect the river bank.
“This is one of the many projects planned for Kapit Town,” added Masing.
Engineer Anding Unchi handed over the documents to the contractor Dato Yong Hua Sying of Kyo Sinar Sdn Bhd.
The contract period is 15 months from the date of signing the contract worth RM4,079,940.
Earlier, consultant Henry Chuo Kuong Hang of Arkitek Gayasari gave a briefing on the project to Masing and others.
Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi, Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong Ijang, Kapit Resident Joseph Belayong, Walikota Philimon Nuing and Bukit Mabong district officer Douglas Pungga were among those witnessing the handing- over ceremony.
