Cops, MCMC to look into recent ‘bots’ attacks

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Royal Malaysia Police ( PDRM) will work with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission ( MCMC) on the ‘bots’ attack aimed at disrupting the communication lines of government leaders and political parties.

Inspector- General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said the attack was seen as an attempt to undermine the 14th General Election (GE14).

“I also received a mystery call as early as 5am this morning showing a foreign number. PDRM and MCMC are conducting a detailed investigation into this matter,” he told the press after visiting Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan Bangsar here yesterday.

He said there could be irresponsible parties spreading false reports on the election provoking public anger and annoyance.

In this regard, he said the public should first check the authenticity of the original source and facts before accepting or spreading such news.

Among those who said they received the overseas calls were UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, its treasurer Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak and supreme council member Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said. They did not answer the calls.

PKR leaders including deputy president Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and PKR vice-president Tian Chua, were also not spared

Mohamad Fuzi advised the public not to believe all GE14 news reports that were transmitted on social media as they might have not been confirmed or validated. — Bernama
