State CID chief: Cops probing 22 ‘trivial’ election-related reports
KUCHING: Police are investigating 22 of 81 electionrelated reports received since Nomination Day.
State CID chief Datuk Dev Kumar said most cases involved trivial matters such as damage to campaign material.
“There was a case in Siburan involving a suspect who was fined RM2,000 for vandalising campaign material along Kampung Sungai Duuh recently. This was the first case recorded in the state involving election-related offences this election.
“There was also an altercation case in Sri Aman during Nomination Day where a scuffle broke out between enthusiastic party supporters, but nothing serious resulted from it,” he told reporters at the SMK Bandar Kuching No 1 polling centre, here yesterday.
According to him, the decline of reports as compared to 413 cases reported in the previous parliamentary election showed that people here are mature and professional.
“As of today ( yesterday), the election process has gone smoothly, and hopefully no untoward incidents would happen.”
