May 15 date to sight Ramadan new moon

KUALA LUMPUR: The sighting of the new moon for the commenceme­nt of the Ramadan fast for Muslims in Malaysia will take place on May 15, according to a statement from the Office of the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal.

The respective committees would attempt to sight the new moon in the evening of May 15 at 29 locations nationwide, it said.

These locations were: 1. Pontian Kecil, Johor. 2. Kompleks Falak Al-Khawarizmi, Kampung Balik Batu, Tanjung Bidara, Melaka. 3. Telok Kemang, Port Dickson,

Negeri Sembilan. 4. Bukit Melawati, Kuala

Langat, Selangor 6. Balai Cerap Selangor, Sabak

Empat, Perlis. According to the statement, the Conference of Rulers had consented to have the date for the commenceme­nt of the Ramadan fast for Muslims in Malaysia based on the sighting of the moon and calculatio­n.

“The Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal will announce over the radio and television on the same night ( May 15) the date for the start of of the fast,” the statement said. — Bernama
