Riot creates record of sorts as ops director for 7th time

-

SERIAN: It is a record of sorts for Dato Sri Richard Riot in that he was director of operation in his own constituency for the seventh consecutive time.

He said he has been doing it all these while because only he knows what is best to be done

“It’s not that I don’t trust anyone but I have been doing it myself for the past six elections. I have been doing it myself because I know exactly what I want done to ensure everything is running according to plan. And I have been very happy with the results,” Riot told the media after casting his vote at SK St Dominic in Kampung Piching, about 2km from here yesterday.

On his chance, Riot, who first won the seat as an independent candidate in 1990 before joining SUPP, said he was confident to retain the seat because even the Chinese voters in downtown Serian are supporting him.

On the election, Riot who is also caretaker Human Resources Minister, said there should be no question on the intergrity of the Election Commission.

“As far as Serian is concerned there is no leakage because everything is very transparent and security is very tight as you can see it for yourself,” he said.

On whether he will be retained as a full minister, Riot said he was leaving it to the prime minister to decide.

“It’s strickly the prerogative of the prime minister. So we leave it to him,” he said.

Serian has some 33,000 voters comprising about 72 per cent Bidayuhs with substantial number of Ibans, Chinese and Malay voters. In this general election Riot is facing DAP’s Edward Andrew Luak and an independent candidate Senior William Rade.

In the last general election Riot won with a 13,151 vote majority against Edward and Star candidate Johny Aput.
