Housewives make it to the polls, despite still in confinement

PEKAN: Although still in confinement after giving birth to her first child 18 days ago, Nur Fatihah Abd Manap, 29, did not allow her condition to deter her from going to the polls to exercise her right as a voter.

And on yesterday’s polling day for the 14th general election, she came to the polling centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sri Terentang here on a wheel chair, thrilled to be there and be able to vote.

” I woke up early today and breastfed my baby before getting ready to go to the polls… a family member sent me here (to polling centre) as my husband,Muhamad Azhar Omar, 29, returned to his hometown in Melaka to cast his vote.

”Although it’s painful as the (cesarean) incision is still not fully healed and I have to use the wheelchair, I insist on going to the polls because it is our responsibility as Malaysians to choose the government that will determine our future and that of the country,” said Nur Fatihah, 29, from Kampung Permatang Pauh here, when met by Bernama after casting her vote.

Another housewife Norisaniah Abdul Manan, 34, who is also still in confinement, said she did not want to use her condition as an excuse for her not to go out to vote.

” I hope that my presence at this polling centre will help add to the number of voter turnout in the GE14. It is us that will shape the future of our children.

“I hope that the peaceful atmosphere today will continue and all the people will accept whatever decision with an open heart,” said Norisaniah, who came to the polling centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan Langgar, here with her brother. — Bernama
