BAGAN DATUK: Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi described the 11- day campaign period for the 14th General Election ( GE14) nationwide which ended at midnight as better than the previous general elections.

The deputy prime minister said even though the party supporters were campaigning in a passionate and enthusiastic way, they celebrated the process of democracy in peace and harmony.

“So far, very good and only a few police reports have been lodged nationwide. The general election campaigns this time were better than before.

“Thanks to the opposition and the police who maintained the public order during the precampaign, campaign and (voting process) today (yesterday).

“I hope there will be no incidents today,” he told reporters after casting his vote at Madrasah Manbail Ulum Sungai Nipah Darat, Rungkup here yesterday morning.

He was accompanied by his wife Datin Seri Hamidah Khamis and his eldest daughter, Datuk Nurulhidayah.

Ahmad Zahid, 65, the incumbent for the Bagan Datuk parliamentary seat for five terms since 1995, faced Pakhrurrazi Arshad of PKR and Ata Abdul Muneim Hasan Adli of PAS.

In GE13, Ahmad Zahid defeated Madhi Hasan of PKR with a majority of 2,108 votes.

He said all quarters should put their trust in the Election Commission ( EC).

He also warned all quarters not to make wild allegations against the police, armed forces and EC. — Bernama
