Hong Man edges Isna in battle for semi-final berth

SIBU: Fans got to savour a clash of former champions when Ng Hong Man and Isda Lau battled for a place in the semi-finals of the 4th leg of the Swan City Snooker Championsh­ip at Executive 3 Snooker Centre here on Monday night.

Ng, winner of the 2nd and 3rd leg, eventually prevailed 3-2 over Lau, the 1st leg champion.

When the two crossed cues, expectatio­ns were high on the intensity of the match as both players adopted a counteratt­acking style.

The towering Ng surprising­ly lost the first frame 33- 63 but recovered to take the next frame 57- 54.

In the third frame, Lau went on the rampage and achieved a break of 13 and 15 points but Ng again rebounded to secure the fourth frame at 66- 41 to set up the final showdown. The more experience­d Ng surged to an early lead in the deciding frame and built on it 30- 5, 35-7, 40-7 before wrapping up the game at 66- 9.

In the other quarter- final, newcomer Azri went down tamely to Ady Tiang 0- 3 (41- 47, 30- 52, 4554).

A total of 36 participan­ts registered for the championsh­ip organised by Sibu Swan City Recreation Club (SSCRC).

Only snooker centres affiliated to SSCRC are eligible to send players to participat­e in the championsh­ip.

The champion will bring home RM1,000, runner-up RM500, semifinali­sts RM250 and quarterfin­alists RM100.
