Chong steadfast against state BN parties joining PH

-

KUCHING: State Pakatan Harapan ( PH) chairman Chong Chieng Jen has dismissed speculations of the state Barisan Nasional (BN) being in talks with Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to join PH.

He said the report quoted a source that could not confirm whether the so- called meeting between Dr Mahathir and state BN leader did occur.

“Regardless, it is our state PH stand that we will not accept any state BN party, which includes PBB, joining us. Accepting PBB into Pakatan is akin to Umno joining Pakatan at national-level.

“We have fought so hard against the corrupt regime. Now that we are seeing some light and chances of having the corrupt leaders in state BN be held accountable for past corruption and misdeeds done to Sarawak, it would be absurd to allow these state BN parties to join PH; thereby whitewashing all the corruption that has been committed by them.

“Our party has fought so hard along the lines of integrity and our supporters have supported us through the difficult times in the low ebb in the history of our party’s struggles, because they believe in our integrity,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Chong, who is also state DAP chairman, said state PH could and would not accept state BN parties, especially PBB, into its fold.

On individual BN members hopping over, Chong said they would be accepted into state PH subject to vetting by the Malaysian Anti- Corruption Commission (MACC).
