Outgoing Sarawak CID chief praised for exemplary service
KUCHING: Outgoing state CID chief SAC Datuk Dev Kumar has been praised for his leadership and service quality in handling public security and safety, particularly for women and children.
Minister of Welfare, Community Well Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah said his contributions are much appreciated.
“Your contribution is much more than we can say to you tonight and your leadership and commitment in safety and of women and children have become guiding principles,” she said during a farewell and appreciation dinner organised by the Women and Family Department on Thursday.
Fatimah also thanked him for his hands- on approach to cases.
“You are hands- on in providing ideas to ensure that the standard operating procedure ( SOP) in handling cases, especially violence against women and children, is properly in place and to meet the objectives efficiently, accurately and fast.
“The SOP is always in place and the objective of overcoming violence against women and children had the right support,” she said.
Dev Kumar said he would always have fond memories of Sarawak.
“In my 36 years of service, Sarawak has always been close to my heart and it goes back as far as in 1982, when I started my police career as an investigation officer for seven years until 1989 in Kuching. Then I left and I came back again three years ago in 2016. In all, I have served 10 years in Sarawak,” he said.
He also praised the system to protect women and children in Sarawak.
“We have been strengthening the system and the SOP and am proud that Sarawak has the best system to take care of women and children’s safety in the country. I am sure my successor will do the same thing here,” he said.
Among those present were ministry permanent secretary Dr Saadiah Abdul Samat, Women and Family Department director Noriah Ahmad, and Fire and Rescue Department state director Nor Hisham Mohammad.
