DUBS hopes Bumiputera economic agenda continues under new federal govt
KUCHING: A call has been made upon the new federal government to give focus on the Bumiputera economic agenda, especially in Sarawak.
According to Chamber of Sarawak Bumiputera Entrepreneurs (DUBS) president Datu Abang Helmi Tan Sri Ikhwan, this is to ensure the continuation of what the previous government had implemented.
“We, representing the business community from Sarawak, congratulate Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for the ( Pakatan Harapan’s) triumph in the 14th general election.
“However, on behalf of the business community in Sarawak, we do hope that the new federal government would continue to give focus on the Bumiputera economic agenda, in line with rapid progress of the businesses in the state,” he said in a statement.
Abang Helmi pointed out that a cause for concern among the local business community would be the uncertainties over the Bumiputera economic policies during this transition period.
“The Bumiputera economic agenda in Sarawak has been planned very well with excellent commitment from federal government agencies such as Teraju (), Matrade (), SME Corp, and Credit Guarantee Corporation.
“We wish that all these federal agencies would continue (to operate) in ensuring that the economic agenda would be high on the federal government’s focus areas.
On Thursday, Dr Mahathir took the oath as the nation’s seventh Prime Minister following Pakatan Harapan’s feat of winning 113 seats in GE14.
Barisan Nasional held 79 seats, PAS had 18, Warisan eight, Independent three, while Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku secured one.
