UCTS to hold charity event for elderly on May 20
SIBU: A charity event called ‘Reignite Love from Borneo’ will be held at the University College of Technology Sarawak ( UCTS) on May 20 from 9am till 4pm.
It is jointly organised by the Enoch Elderly Association and UCTS with Dr David Liong leading the organizing committee.
Dr Liong told the media yesterday that the free conference in Mandarin on elderly care and service is open to members of the public with UCTS senior lecturers among the facilitators.
“We’re expecting some 500 people to turn up. There will be 10 booths displaying and selling various products,” he added.
The event at UCTS will be followed by a charity dinner Kingwood Hotel.
“Dinner tickets at RM52 each or RM520 per table are still available,” Dr Ling said, adding that they hoped to raise RM300,000.
“We have to buy a custom-made vehicle fitted with mobile bath coach to serve the needy in Sibu. We also want to support needy students at UCTS recommended by Students Development and Services Department,” he said.
Meanwhile, UCTS Students Development and Services Department senior manager Lu Yew King encouraged UCTS students to get involved in community activities.
He said it is important to instill care and love for others, especially the elderly.
