KUCHING: Sarawak’s very own MasterChef Asia finalist Jasbir Kaur was up in her element yesterday, entertaining and giving cooking tips to guests at a private function at her restaurant Thaali.

During the event hosted by the Young Professionals Committee (YPC) of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants, Jasbir demonstrated how to cook basic Punjabi food which is her passion and shared her experience competing in the MasterChef Asia.

Jasbir revealed that she serves authentic Punjabi food in her restaurant but does her best to showcase Sarawak cuisine when invited to cook elsewhere.

As a Sarawakian known for cooking, she feels obligated to promote Sarawak food to the world, albeit in her own style.

“There are local food which I think non- Sarawakians would love, like Manuk Pansuh ( Chicken cooked inside bamboo), Sarawak Laksa and many more,” she added.

She revealed that her favourite local food is Sarawak Laksa and is proud to make her own Laksa paste.

“I like making things from scratch because I always believe in using fresh ingredients,” she said.

Regarding future plans, she hopes to get some help from the government to promote Sarawakian and Malaysian cuisine to the world.

Jasbir became known after finishing third in the 2015 MasterChef Asia, a regional competitive cooking show.
