PAS proposes setting up of unity govt for Perak
MARANG: PAS has proposed the setting up of a unity government in Perak comprising all Pakatan Harapan, Barisan Nasional and PAS elected representatives in the 59- seat legislative assembly, but with two conditions.
PAS secretary- general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan said the first condition was that the menteri besar of the new Perak government must be a Muslim who has the agreement of all the Muslim elected representatives in the state.
The second condition was that the majority of the 10 state executive councillors must also be Muslims, he said to reporters here.
Takiyuddin said the PAS offer was discussed and decided upon at a special meeting of the PAS Centre Committee chaired by PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang in Rusila here yesterday.
“If there is no agreement on the conditions, PAS will remain in the opposition in the state,” he said. Also present was PAS Information chief Nasruddin Hasan Tantawi.
Perak has no government as yet following the general election on May 9 because no political party had achieved a simple majority of 30 seats. PH secured 29 seats, BN won 27 and PAS has three.
Takiyuddin said if the PAS proposal was rejected, it was highly likely that Perak would have to hold a snap state election to determine which party forms the state government.
PH and BN have yet to hold any discussion on the formation of any coalition government in Perak.
“We ( PAS) have not met with BN or PH. We are making this offer now. If they are keen, then we can all meet and discuss the proposed unity government,” he said. — Bernama
