PH, BN asked to prove majority to form Perak government

-

IPOH: The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, has given Pakatan Harapan ( PH) up to 2pm today to prove that the coalition has the simple majority of 30 seats in the Perak legislative assembly to form the state government, according to Perak Dewan Negara member Datuk Seri Mohd Annuar Zaini.

He said the Ruler had also given Barisan Nasional ( BN) until morning to prove its claim of having the required 30 seats for the simple majority.

“According to the official results of the Election Commission, PH has 29 seats. So, Sultan Nazrin is offering the pact the first option for setting up a government, on condition that there is a simple majority of 30 seats,” he told reporters outside Istana Kinta here yesterday.

He said that earlier yesterday, the Sultan’s office received a letter from BN informing that it had a simple majority, namely 27 BN state seats and three from PAS. However, he added, the Sultan wished to see further evidence supporting the BN claim.

Perak has a total of 59 seats in the legislative assembly.

Mohd Annuar said that if PH could not prove it had a simple majority, Sultan Nazrin would not delay any further the formation of the state government, which is expected to be by tomorrow evening.

“The Sultan has to abide by the dictates of the constitution,” he said.

Earlier yesterday, Pakatan Harapan leaders comprising Perak PH chairman Ahmad Faizal Azumu, Perak DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming, Perak Amanah chairman Asmuni Awi and Perak PKR chairman Dr Muhammad Nor Manuty had an audience with Sultan Nazrin.

All of them were seen entering the palace grounds at about 3.25pm and leaving an hour later. — Bernama
