Azmin takes oath as Selangor MB for second term
KLANG: Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali has been sworn in as the Menteri Besar of Selangor for the second term before the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah at Istana Alam Shah here yesterday.
Also present at the Selangor Menteri Besar oath-taking and pledge of loyalty ceremony were the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin and the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah.
While holding the Lembing Sembuana ( sacred spear), Mohamed Azmin also read the 10 pledges of loyalty as menteri besar among them to preserve and uphold the principles of the Rukunegara and to protect the institution of the Ruler as well as to defend it from being tainted or threatened by any parties.
The Menteri Besar also pledged to preserve the special position of the Malays as well as interests of other races as enshrined in the Federal Constitution and the Selangor State Constitution 1959 apart from preserving the post being tainted by unlawful acts.
The swearing-in ceremony was witnessed by Shah Alam High Court Judge Datuk Mohd Zabidin Mohd Diah at Balairung Seri in the palace at about 3.30pm.
Also present were Mohamed Azmin’s wife, Datin Seri Shamsidar Taharin and Selangor state secretary Datuk Mohd Amin Ahmad Ahya.
Mohamed Azmin, 54, who is PKR deputy president took his oath for the first time on Sept 23 2014.
In the 14th General Election ( GE14), Mohamed Azmin succeeded in defending his Bukit Antarabangsa state seat with a 25,512-vote majority and the Gombak parliamentary seat with a 48,721-vote majority.
In the general election, Pakatan Harapan retained Selangor state with a two-thirds majority winning 51 of 56 state seats.
Meanwhile, BN lost eight of the 12 state seats it won in GE13 and PAS only won one of the 12 seats it held before this. — Bernama
