KUCHING: Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) personnel arrested two individuals during a drug raid on a hotel at Abell Road here on Friday.

State NCID chief Supt Sahar Abdul Latif said the man and woman – aged 33 and 22 – are from Kuching and Bintulu respectively.

“Acting on the information received, a team of narcotics police from the state police headquarters apprehended the two individuals in a room of a hotel at Abell Road.

“Initial inspection uncovered a black bag containing a translucent package containing pills, believed to be ecstasy,” Sahar said in a statement issued yesterday.

He said upon checking another bag placed on a table inside the room, police found a blue purse containing a straw filled with a white powder, believed to be ketamine.

“Police also found 80 translucent packs containing crystalline substance, believed to be syabu, found inside a safe in the room.

“Moreover, there were also translucent packs containing white powder, believed to be ketamine, and a digital weighing scale inside the safe. All these items were seized,” said Sahar.

He said the drugs seized were estimated to be worth RM43,180.

Police also seized a sedan car worth RM70,000 and RM2,642 in cash.

Sahar said the suspects have allegedly been distributing drugs since early this year.

He added the suspects tested positive for methamphetamineamphetamine use.

It is understood that the male suspect has a prior criminal record.

Police are obtaining a remand order for both suspects to facilitate the investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
