SIBU: The installation of roofing for Sibu’s first uptown night market which started on Monday will be completed within a week, according to Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) deputy chairperson Rogayah Jamain.

Located at the popular food court ‘Taman Selera Harmoni’ along Awang Ramli Amit Road here, it boasts of 52 stalls to be managed by SMC, though only a few applications have been received so far, according to Rogayah.

“Those interested to trade here should submit their applications as soon as possible,” she said yesterday.

Goods for sale at the night market on Fridays to Saturdays from 5pm to 10pm include clothing, home-baked cake/ cookies, promotional IT goods, handicrafts and other types of trade (subject to approval).

Rogayah said the objectives of the uptown night market is to spruce up the ambience at ‘Taman Selera Harmoni’, apart from providing opportunities for parttime traders to supplement their income.

Meanwhile, Taman Selera Harmoni Sibu Muslim Traders Association chairman Abdul Taib Rosli believes that the night market will draw more customers to the food court.

“This is the first uptown night market in Sibu with traders from various backgrounds under one roof. It can attract people from all walks of life and indirectly attract people to dine at ‘Taman Selera Harmoni’,” Abdul Taib opined.

He reckoned that the new trading concept may attract more youths to venture into business.
