Miri hosts second leg of Go Bald 2018
MIRI: The second leg of the month-long ‘Go Bald’ campaign – a charity programme by Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS) is taking place at Permaisuri Imperial City Mall here today.
According to SCCS president Jocelyn Hee, the organising committee is looking forward to have more people supporting this event to raise funds for children with cancer and their families.
“The funds raised from ‘Go Bald’ would be used to cover all expenses for young cancer patients. ‘Go Bald’ has become our signature fund-raising event but more importantly, we want to spread awareness to the public members that by voluntarily having their head shaved, it signifies a meaningful act and demonstrates their support for children who are battling cancer,” she said.
The event, scheduled to commence at 11.30am, is set to begin with Hee’s speech, followed by a remembrance video of the parents of the young patients.
After that is the first slot of head-shaving involving SCCS ‘families’, committee members and supporters – this segment is expected to run until 4pm.
Established in 1995, SCCS has spent up to a million ringgit on medical expenses and aid towards better care and comfort of children with cancer.
In this regard, Hee also said the expenses on the halfway homes in Kuching and Miri are increasing, as these facilities provide accommodation for more than 180 families from outside of the two divisions during the patients’ treatment.
“We are looking at having better response this year, as we certainly hope that it could raise more money to help these children and their families.”
The first leg of the ‘Go Bald’ campaign kicked off in Kuching last Sunday (May 6).
The next stop will be at Delta Mall in Sibu this May 20, before concluding at Bintulu Times Square Megamall on May 27.
