Armed Forces vow to support new defence minister
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) will give its full commitment and support to the new Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu also known as Mat Sabu.
Its chief Gen Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor in congratulating Mat Sabu said he believed in raising and exchanging ideas between the new Defence Minister and the MAF.
He said servicemen and their families would benefit while the nation’s defence was still strong and intact.
Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had named Mat Sabu who is also the President of Parti Amanah Negara (PAN), to take charge of the defence portfolio, at a press conference to announce some of the cabinet members yesterday.
Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was appointed Home Minister while Lim Guan Eng is the Finance Minister.
Meanwhile, Mat Sabu said he regarded the mandate given to him as a big challenge.
Met after the media conference to announce the new Cabinet ministers Mat Sabu said he already has an initial plan to manage and administer the ministry.
“This is a big challenge to me, I will conduct a preliminary study and hold a meeting with all the senior officials of this ministry. I want to know what’s going on in this ministry and what needs to be done as well as recommendations that will be brought up,” he told reporters.
Elaborating further Mat Sabu said, among others, he also wanted to study all reports relating to land belonging to the Armed Forces that had allegedly been privatised.
“I will look into it,” he added.
