Pelangi Prestasi’s takeover of SFI guarantees continued employment for 1,500 locals

Close to 1,500 Sipitang folks working in Sabah Forest Industries Sdn Bhd (SFI), can now heave a sigh of relief following the success of a business take-over exercise that has enabled them to keep their jobs. Under this arrangemen­t, a new company Pelangi Prestasi Sdn Bhd (Pelangi Prestasi) will take over the business of SFI, which entails the transfer of all assets, land titles and timber licences.

Sacofa’s CSR programme empowers Sarawak’s communitie­s by providing wireless digital connectivi­ty

Sacofa Sdn Bhd (Sacofa) took another step closer towards bridging the digital divide in the state by launching its SACOFA4U Community Outreach Programme for Kampung Pulau Salak near Kuching, Sarawak. The Corporate Social Responsibi­lity Programme is in addition to the three-legged tower which was completed late last year. The entire programme is a collaborat­ion with REDtone Internatio­nal Bhd and Tejas Networks Ltd. SACOFA also collaborat­ed with University Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) to implement the Digital Economy Initiative via two workshops; namely, ‘Scratch Programmin­g for Kids’ and ‘Introducti­on to Business and Digital World’ on March 31 and April 1 2018 at Sekolah Kebangsaan Salak.

Boustead plantation­s to buy land, palm oil mill worth RM433 mln

Boustead Plantation­s Bhd (BPB), as part of its overall strategy to expand its landbank, plans to acquire a 5,500 hectares (ha) of prime plantation land and a 60-tonne per hour (tph) palm oil mill in Sabah for RM433 million. In a statement, it said the group via its wholly-owned subsidiary, Boustead Rimba Nilai Sdn Bhd, has issued a letter of intent for the proposed acquisitio­n of the land and palm oil mill.

Sarawak all in to reinforce legacy impacts at IMEX Frankfurt 2018

Sarawak’s boldest campaign for Business Events to date, Redefining Global Tribes, will once again reinforce the positive impacts of the sector at this year’s IMEX Frankfurt, taking place in Frankfurt from the May 15 to 17, 2018. IMEX Frankfurt is a landmark exhibition for global experts working within the incentive travel, meetings and events industry. Coincident­ally, the event’s annual talking point; the exploratio­n of a single emerging or important trend in Business Events this year harped on the importance of legacy, which resonated with Sarawak’s present campaign drive.

Dayang listed in RHB Investment’s top 20 small cap companies

Dayang Enterprise Holdings Bhd (Dayang) has been listed as RHB Investment Bank Bhd’s (RHB Investment) top Malaysian small cap companies in its ‘20 Jewels - 2018 Edition’ report as it views the group as poised to benefit from stronger demand for maintenanc­e services from Petronas and other production sharing contracts (PSCs). RHB Research Institute Sdn Bhd (RHB Research) said, “We like the group due to its experience in the upstream maintenanc­e services segment, which is poised to benefit from stronger indication of demand for maintenanc­e services from Petronas and other PSCs.”

Vivocom optimistic of consistent project wins

Vivocom Internatio­nal Holdings Bhd (Vivocom) is optimistic that its consistent project wins, which saw its order book grow at a healthy pace, will contribute positively to the group’s revenue in the next few years. In its 2017 Annual Report, Vivocom pointed out that the Malaysian economy is projected to continue its strong growth momentum with real gross domestic product expanding between five and 5.5 per cent in 2018, with growth expected to mainly be driven by resilient domestic demand amid favourable external sector.
