State Library records lower turn-out at blood donation drive

-

MIRI: Twelve women were among the 20 successful donors at a blood donation drive organised by Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, Miri and the Miri Blood Bank yesterday

A spokesperson for the organisers Sofina Tan who is also the library’s public relation officer said although the number was far lower than the expected 40 pints, she was glad that the donors including five who were not fit to donate, came to support the humanitarian effort.

“The recent election may have affected the number of donors as many had gone back to their constituencies to vote but have not returned to the city. Some including our staff registered to donate but were not fit to do so due to lack of sleep, as they too were involved in the election,” said Tan yesterday.

“It was held to help the Miri Blood Bank to stock up before the Gawai Dayak celebration and the month of Ramadan’ she said.

Tan said the library will hold two more donation drives this year with two other collaborators apart from the blood bank.

The next donation drive on July 28 will be organized with ANT Education Miri Branch – a private school in Marina Square and on Dec 8 with Mega Hotel, to mark their respective anniversaries.
