Shouts of ‘Reformasi’ reverberat­e as Perak MB sworn in

KUALA KANGSAR: Thunderous shouts of ‘ Reformasi’ and applause were heard outside the Istana Iskandaria­h here as soon as Ahmad Faizal Azumu was sworn in as the 12th Menteri Besar of Perak yesterday.

The 48-year- old Chenderian­g assemblyma­n representi­ng Pakatan Harapan( PH) took his oath of office before Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah.

Karen Lein Ty Lee, 55, who was among those who waited as early as 2pm at the palace entrance to show support for the new menteri besar said, she was thrilled to witness the historic moment.

“I had been waiting at the Istana Kinta in Ipoh since early this morning as I was worried PH would not be able to form the state government at the last minute.

“This is a happy moment ... its like Merdeka once again. I hope this newly- formed government will not change as what happened in 2008,” she told Bernama.

S Logan, a private sector worker from Gopeng said, he along with 15 relatives and friends had waited at the palace entrance since 2pm to catch a glimpse of the new menteri besar.

“I hope the new menteri besar will show concern for the people and able to bring fresh perspectiv­e to the government’s delivery system,” he said.

Fahrul Hafiz Abdullah Khoshaini, 36, from Kamunting said he came to show support for the new Menteri Besar who is the people’s choice.

In the 14th general election, PH comprising PKR, DAP, Amanah and PPBM won 29 of the 59 state seats, while Barisan Nasional ( BN) gained 27 seats and PAS three seats.

PH gained a simple a majority of 31 seats to form the state government after two BN assemblyme­n chose to join the ruling coalition. — Bernama
