‘Unity not only a slogan but needs to be practised’
KANGAR: Unity is not merely a slogan but needs to be practised to be truly appreciated in the daily lives of the people, said the Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail.
He reminded the people that a responsible community who loved peace would be willing to do anything to maintain unity, and as such, urged stakeholders to carry out more activities to promote goodwill among the people.
Tuanku Syed Faizuddin, who was accompanied by the Raja Puan Muda of Perlis Tuanku Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil, said this when launching the Perlis 2018 Unity Week at Dataran Datuk Sheikh Ahmad here today.
Also present was National Unity and Integration Department deputy director-general (Operation), Abd Karim Abu Seman.
At the event, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin, who is also president of the Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council, presented a special award to Perlis FM radio presenter, Mohd Shah Hashim, 48, who had rescued a colleague from drowning while fishing in the waters off Tanjung Piai, Johor in 2012.
He also presented a similar award to housewife Mariamah Munusamy, 52, of Kuala Sanglang, for constantly helping an elderly neighbour who is living alone.
A cash donation of RM600 was also presented to 20 tithe recipients from the nearby areas. — Bernama
