SMK Oya emerges champion in Youth Forum Competitio­n 2018

KUCHING: SMK Oya from Mukah outperform­ed four other finalists to emerge champion in the statelevel Youth Forum Competitio­n 2018 yesterday.

The champion team received RM5,000 while its member Nazatul Erna Abdul Malik was awarded the best forum member with a cash prize of RM500. This marked Mukah’s second win. The division first won in 2009.

SMK Marudi, Miri was the first runner-up, winning RM4,000 while SMK Kabong, Betong the second runner-up, received RM3,000.

Two consolatio­n prizes of RM1,000 each went to SMK Agama Sheikh Haji Othman Abdul Wahab ( Shoaw), Kuching and SMK Pesantren Abdul Taib Mahmud, Samarahan.

Sareena Cynthia Gerawat from SMK Marudi won the best chairperso­n award with RM500.

A total of 13 schools across the state took part in this year’s forum that commenced last Saturday.

The eight schools that received participat­ing prize of RM500 each were SMK Medamit, Limbang; SMK Asyakirin, Bintulu; SMK Kapit No. 2, Kapit; SMK Rosli Dhoby, Sibu; SMK St. Anthony, Sarikei; SMK Lubok Antu, Sri Aman; SMK Balai Ringin, Serian and SMK Bandar Samariang, Kuching.

Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud handed out the prizes to the winners during a ceremony held at Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka ( DBP) in Petra Jaya here.

Among those present were DBP director- general Datuk Abdul Adzis Abas and Assistant Minister of Education and Technologi­cal Research Dr Annuar Rapaee.
