Unimas commits to robotic and automation certificat­ion programme

KUCHING: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak ( Unimas) yesterday signed a memorandum of agreement ( MoA) with Digital Economy Hub (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd (DEH) on a robotic and automation certificat­ion programme which features a multi- functional desktop robotic arm.

Installed with different endtools, the robotic arm is able to perform various functions such as 3D printing, laser engraving, writing and drawing.

With this collaborat­ion, Unimas is primed and equipped to embrace the digital economy initiative­s of the Sarawak government towards realising Industrial Revolution 4.0 in education and manufactur­ing, while DEH is committed and dedicated to Sarawak’s agenda to digitalise the state’s various economic sectors.

Unimas vice chancellor Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi and DEH chairman Datuk Stanley Ling were the signatorie­s on behalf of their respective entities.

The MoA signing, held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching ( BCCK) here, was witnessed by Education, Science and Technologi­cal Research Minister Dato Sri Michael Manyin.

A press release distribute­d to media personnel covering the event stated Unimas was committed in providing the nation with leaders, managers, scientists and technical specialist­s in informatio­n, communicat­ion and creative technology.

“Moreover, Unimas is capable of handling complex challenges of our common future through the harmonisat­ion of IR4.0 within our teachings and research as we welcome the era of digital economy.

“DEH is establishe­d with the vision to be the centre for showcasing, demonstrat­ing, experienci­ng and educating the most comprehens­ive digital, innovative and industrydi­sruptive technologi­es. It aspires to contribute to the digital ecosystem in the state of Sarawak,” it stated.
