MIRI: A couple has been arrested for allegedly possessing methamphetamine, a dangerous drug.

The Magistrate’s Court here yesterday ordered them to be remanded for two days to assist in police investigation.

The order was issued by Senior Assistant Registrar Md Syafique Md Hilmie after allowing the remand application submitted by assistant officer Sergeant Dayang Fadzillah Ramlee from Miri District Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID).

In her application, Fadzillah said acting on information received, a police team from Miri NCID led by Sub-Inspector Bakar Drahman raided a house in Lorong 9 Krokop here on May 13.

In the 11.45am raid, police arrested a man and a woman in a room at the house.

The police who then made further inspection came across two transparent plastic packets each containing lumps of crystal believed to be methamphetamine weighing 0.64 grams.

Fadzillah had asked for threeday remand under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code on both suspects aged 27 and 30 years from Krokop and Bandar Baru Permyjaya to enable the police to complete the investigation papers.

She also said the police needed more time to record conversation between both of the suspects.

However, the court only allowed remand for two days until May 16.
