Motorists still need time to adjust to traffic changes in Sibu Jaya

-

SIBU: A handful of motorists are still confused by the changes affecting several roads at the commercial area of Sibu Jaya Township here.

It can be seen that some of them are entering the lanes that used to be open four months ago but are now closed for entry; or driving against the flow of traffic along some stretches.

Based on his observation, Sibu Rural District Council ( SRDC) chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngelai believes that the majority of these motorists are those from outstation.

“They are not familiar with the new flow and direction of the traffic. Nevertheless, the council is happy to note that four months after we implemented this for Sibu Jaya commercial area, many motorists begin to adjust to the changes.

“Having said this, we are fully aware that the people need more time to adjust and familiarise themselves with the direction,” he said yesterday.

Petrus also said in view of the coming Gawai Dayak celebration, the township could expect massive crowds of people coming to shop for festive items.

“I hope everybody would follow the new traffic flow and help ease the congestion,” he said, adding the changes were made to address traffic congestion and related problems at the commercial area of this township, which has a population of 30,000 people.
